A journey through the ideas for my wedding and beyond...

The Twist Wrap Dress...

I think I have fallen a bit in love with the idea of these dresses... the twist and wrap dress, 1 dress with 15 different ways you can wear it. As I am having 4 bridesmaids, everyone is all different shapes and sizes (even though they are all skinny minnies) they all have different tastes, body hangups that they don't want on show, I think it is a pretty cool idea to let them design their own dresses but still look all the same.
I saw the idea in a newspaper my mother in law to be got me that had a section on weddings on that were happening locally and it said about these dresses and they are selling them in BHS.

They even have instructions on how you can do them and of course you could experiment to find a style you like.

I've seen you can get them at a few different places and I think it would be good for my bridesmaids to have a dress they could wear them again to other places (it's a waste to wear something once, that should only be allowed for your wedding dress! lol)

BHS only have 3 colours available at the moment, fuschia, purple and jade and 2 different lengths, floor length and knee length. I don't know what they will look like in real life but I am impressed with the amount of options one girl can have!

I found a video with some styles showing you how to do some of the looks but there seems to be quite a lot out there to look at if you are interested in this 15 way dress...

What style do you like best?

Bee in your barnet....

To match the theme of my wedding being relaxed I want my hair to match, I don't want anything fussy and something that makes me feel uncomfortable so that I can't move my head or that I can't bop away later when I've had a few drinks :D

Here are the ideas I have had so far....

 Like this but more wavy

I would also like daisies platted into my hair too and that would be my only accessory.

What do you prefer, an up do or a casual look or something else?

Decorations....

One theme I like is the outside folk/hippy look but knowing this english weather it would pour down on the day. Here are some ideas of what I like that I have been collecting....

I like the mix and match look where it looks like items have been collected over the years and makes it look personal to you. We have a predicament though, James doesn't like clutter and mess whereas I can't get enough of it, if I like things I have to have all of them, but in a stylish way. We are going to try and do alot of the things ourselves, like making the table decorations because I don't want to pay out for someone else to do it when I can do it myself and that way it is personal to us.  I always find homemade things are better. :)

Music collection...

MUSIC! I always get a mental block when someone asks me what is your favourite song? Errrrrr.......... I'm not the kind of person who bothers to keep up with the latest music trends and songs and tend to dwell in the past with classic rock, motown, rock and roll,  I have always been like that (just ask my h.t.b). However there has always been a song that has been our song, me and James, whenever I hear it I think of him. This is Everlong by the Foo Fighters, its the song that makes me sad when I'm not with him and makes me happy when I am. It became our song when he was going away to university for his first year and we had never spent a day apart from meeting each other so it was a big deal. I don't think it's suitable for a first dance song, but we got the idea from watching Friends (inspiration from weird places lol) when we heard the song playing when Monica and Chandler were getting married playing in the background. So I think that is what we are going to do!

I think we should do something like this..... (sorry the video quality is rubbish but its the best one I could find!)

I'm really not sure what first dance song we should have... it's difficult because Everlong is our song to find something else that you love as much will be hard, and not be too depressing and also have relevant lyrics. I think it is best for us to both write down songs that we like or think are relevant and then choose....

So here it goes....

Faithfully - Journey
Open Arms - Journey
Better Together - Jack Johnson
Baby, it's fact - Hellogoodbye
Somebody to love - Queen
Who loves you - Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons

(Mental block, that's all I can think of at the moment but will update soon!)

Family weddings...

I wanted to know what other people's weddings have been like to get ideas and this is my h.t.b's mum and dad's wedding. They got married in 1987 and she wore a red suit which I thought was a different twist to the traditional wedding dress and it makes it individual to them.

The bouquet consisted of roses and babys breath.

And their cake was a 3 tiered fruit cake.

Sorry the quality of the pictures are a bit poor but you can kind of get the jist...

LWD....

The dress!!! I just know this is going to be one the hardest things to find! I know I could make it myself but I like to re-use old things and I have to make things all the time I don't want to be stressed about that too!!

This is the style I am kind of going for....

I want it to be lace as I feel it is very vintage and I like the way it looks very feminine and chic. I don't really like the satin look, I don't know why I just never have, it looks nice on other people I just don't think I would feel very nice in it. I want it to be an A line dress with maybe a sweet heart neckline or a v neckline, and maybe soft floaty sleeves.

There are other dress styles I like but I feel like this is my favourite, I don't want to over complicate things.

What dress style do you like? What do you prefer satin or lace? or anything else?

Fell asleep among the flowers...

This is the bit I am most looking forward to (apart from actually getting married! lol) the flowers! I have such a love for these little beauties, especially wild flower plants, this is the theme I am going for, like they have just been scooped up on a walk out. Like I have said before daisies are my favourite flower and they are definitely going to be in my bouquet.

I think this bouquet is lovely, really has the english countryside look about it with the twine on the stems too, I don't want things to be too neat and symmetrical (that's me all over)
I like the idea of having babys breath too, even though I feel like it is a bit christmassy but think it is so elegant and screams wedding!

I also want to include my mother's and my mother in law to be's favourite flowers in the bouquet or flower arrangements to dedicate something to them in the wedding.

My mum's favourite flowers are roses and carnations...

And my mother in law to be's are freesias... these will also be a dedication to my h.t.b's nan who's favourite flowers were these too...

And these are my dad's favourites, his garden is full of different varieties of them...

Dahlias....

I also like cornflowers, bluebells, lily of the valley and lavender....

 Cornflowers....

 Bluebells...

 Lily of the Valley...

 Lavender...

Lavender always reminds me of my grandmother who used to pick it as we used to take her dog for a walk and then give me some to put in bags to make lavender bags to put in my wardrobe etc. so that is a tribute to her in heaven. And apparently lily of the valley is mine and my husband to be's birthday month flower - May. (He was born the day after me :) )

Here are other photos and pictures I have found for ideas.... Hope you enjoy....

What is your favourite flower?

Have your cake and eat it...

First things first, I've been collecting pictures of ideas of cakes for a while just because I think you have got to do a bit of research of what you want before you go to a baker to make your wedding cake. As you can tell I want a floral design, my main flower is a daisy as it has always been my favourite flower throughout childhood and it is a piece of me. I will go on in more detail about flowers in another post because I could speak about them all day but I want the theme to carry through on my cake. I did find some other interesting ideas that I would not have thought of if I hadn't done some research though. As I have been collecting images as I go along I haven't got the names of the creators unfortunately but I wouldn't get exactly the same thing anyway, I want my own design input into it too.
I love this ruffle cake, I love the texture and the sweetness it looks like it has from the colour and it's an idea I would never have thought of, I have always assumed wedding cakes had to be floral and white.
I like the frilly icing idea, it looks like layers of lace, a real vintage feel to the cake. I like the vintage idea and I am going down the route of vintage countryside wedding
Again I like the frilly layered up icing at the bottom and how the shades of colour have gone from dark to light working its way up the cake. I also like the look of the two different textured layers of cake, one with the frills and the other with gathered flowers all over.
Daisies!! I like the idea of a simple flower shape of the daisy being repeated all over the cake and sprinkling down the cake to nothing at all.
Bigger daisies with a coloured flower, which is also another colour I have been looking at... cornflower blue, I think it represents English countryside, and vintage and wildflowers. I'm not sure about the placement on the cake but at least I know the two colours go well together.
Again not a white wedding cake and I'm thinking I actually prefer the coloured backgrounds... they look alot more sweeter and dainty, and sometimes white can be quite limiting. Again I like the clusters of daisies that scatter down the cake like it has been allowed to grow wild on this cake.
Lots of different sizes flowers, again I'm not sure of the placement of these flowers, I don't think I would want them just on the front, I want them to look wild, not like they have been placed carefully, if that makes sense....
I love this cake, it is based on vintage crockery and it looks amazing, I love the shades of orange and peach that gives it a vintage feel and it is such a different twist on a floral cake.

Now onto cupcakes, I'm not sure about having cupcakes as your main wedding cake as I have seen others do, a modern twist on the wedding cake, but I think I could include some to go with the cake to have to eat while guests are waiting for the cake to be cut. They look so pretty and dainty and everyone loves a cupcake! I like the different toppings you can have but on my budget I doubt I could get something so extravagant.
Simple and chic, so sweet and delicious looking.  Why do things have to be so over complicated? I love this
Even if you don't want fancy toppings, even the casings can be decorative. I like these lace looking cases very vintage with a modern twist.
A close up of the previous cupcakes...

More decorative cupcakes...

Again simple and chic and very tasty looking, I have a lot to think about!!

What cake shape, colours, decorations would you prefer?
